Faith, Come and Get It!
How does one go about getting faith? Without faith, we're in a very bad situation, seeing that each of us uses it every day and a great majority of the time not even realizing it. Some very general examples would be when we eat at a restaurant; we have faith that the food we're served is not poisoned. When we go to the bank and deposit our money, we have faith that it is deposited in our account rather than someone else's. Obviously there are countless other examples, but the greatest example is faith in Jesus Christ to save us from our sins and the eternal loss in hell that our sins deserve. Yet, how do we go about getting this faith? The Bible has that answer. Paul said so very simply in Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Even the great evangelist D.L. Moody, who saw hundreds of thousands of souls saved under his preaching in the 19th century before the day of modern technical equipment, once was reported to have felt a lack of faith in his own life and ministry. He spoke to a friend concerning this distressing situation, and his friend pointed him to the verse we just referenced in Romans 10. As Mr. Moody spent more time in God's Word, sure enough, his faith began to strengthen once again!
The days in which we are living are days of difficulty and even fear, causing us to wonder what may happen next. Things we never really thought we would see are beginning to happen before our very eyes. It seems that even our very futures as far as this world is concerned are in doubt. If we ever needed faith that connects us with eternal realities, it is today. Good News! The very Word of God which gives faith to those who meditate on it is available at no charge to study.
