Tell Me the Story!

Tell Me the Story!

Kevin Vonga was seated on a sidewalk outside of a public building with his card board sign situated beside him which read, “I’m blind, need help” and his tin can strategically positioned on the piece of card board on which he sat.  People walked by and Kevin received only occasional glances or a coin of pity flipped towards his tin can.  Most of the pedestrians merely passed in conversation and without consideration or compassion.

A woman in business attire paused before Kevin and retrieved his makeshift marquis; she turned it over and wrote a new notice.  As she was doing this, the perplexed blind man felt of her expensive shoes.  She left without a word but immediately people began to stop and drop coins and folded bills into his can and onto his card board mat.  At the end of the workday the unpretentious business woman returned and paused before the indigent.  He recognized her by the shape and feel of her shoes and he peered up at her through sightless sockets and in a grateful manner asked “What did you do to my message?”  Kindly she responded, “I wrote the same thing but with different words.”  Her notice on the same shabby sign read: “It’s a lovely day, wish I could see it too!

Perhaps you will cross another’s path today, one who has been hearing, feeling, and seeing the same old words and their life has gone on purposeless and unchanged.  Maybe some kindly placed words said a different way can make a difference.  It may be that person you will encounter has never once heard the glorious news that Jesus loves, forgives, and changes sinners.  Why not tell them that indispensable Gospel in your own words?  How will they hear without a witness?

Fanny Crosby said is so vividly in her hymn: Tell Me the Story of Jesus.

Tell me the story of Jesus; write on my heart every word;

Tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard!

Tell how the angels in chorus, sang as they welcomed His birth,

“Glory to God in the highest; peace and good tidings to earth!”

Tell of the cross where they nailed Him, writhing in anguish and pain;

Tell of the grave where they laid Him, tell how He liveth again!
