 The End…Or The Beginning?
We heard quite a lot about the end of the world being this year, and now that the predicted time has once again come and gone, how are we to think about this? Even though the world did not end, in some ways many people’s world did end. We think of tragic and senseless murders of innocent children, people losing battles with illnesses, companies going bankrupt, and the list goes on and on. Yet even with these endings comes beginnings. Families with an empty chair at the dinner table must somehow go on. People who had made their living at companies now shut down must look for a new career. The world that did not end must go on. Is there anything that does not change in this world that must somehow go on after faith-threatening tragedies and losses? We find that there is something, Someone, who does not change and when our faith is in Him, there is always hope! The Word of God says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17) The Bible also says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
At Christmas, we celebrate the coming into our world of God Himself as a Baby, growing up and then giving His life for our sins so we can have eternal life. He understands rejection and pain, since He came unto His own, but they did not receive Him. He was known as a Man of sorrows, and One acquainted with grief. When we are beyond answers, and even despairing of hope, we can go to Him and find grace to help in our time of need.
A new year is about to begin with new challenges and yes, likely tragedies and pain. But with the One who never changes, we can find stability. If you do not yet know this One who came to give you peace in a troubled world, He gave His very life so you can know Him.
