Following Directions or God?

Following Directions

or God?

I am just not good at following directions while driving. I really don’t know exactly why that is, but for some reason I just have a hard time following directions. They may be very clear to the one who wrote them, but to me, it is often just confusing and I end up lost! Once a friend was trying to tell me how to get to a place I’d never been, and as he got further into describing where to make each turn, the more I knew I would never make it without getting lost! I was greatly relieved, when he stopped giving directions, and said, "you know, I’m going that way myself, just follow me and I’ll take you there." Sure enough, we made the trip without any trouble at all.

Life is often this way; when someone gives us directions, even with the best of intentions, we can get confused and take the wrong path. However, when someone tells us to follow them, it becomes much clearer to us. One Bible Book that seems to have just what I need when in troubling situations is the Psalms, because the psalmists had just about any and every problem you and I have and cried out to God for answers. When in trouble, the psalmists would sometimes talk to God as if He were right there with them in their situation, which as believers in Christ, we know He is! But, because we can’t see God as we do our friends down here, we sometimes may forget He is there. Yet just as my friend who led me to my destination that day, God calls us to follow Him, because we can always trust God. We don’t have to know where God is leading, we just need to follow Him!

The BBN Bible Institute, www.BBN.org, has 2 excellent courses concerning the Psalms, one titled, Selected Psalms, number 30800, and the other titled,  Hymnbook of the Bible,,number 51900. As in all courses in the Institute, they are absolutely free. Give one or both of these courses a try and invite a friend to join you.
