Change! Change! Change!
|
The key word for the two final Presidential
candidates this
year was “CHANGE.” This word seems to be
on every lip. But before we sign up for
our change badges we need to ask, “Are these changes right?” Oh, you
say: “Change is not bad.” Granted, change is not always bad and is
sometimes a welcome guest. Change is a
part of life and it carries us in its current to our graves.
But why are we seeing this sudden fixation for change? Why is it that suddenly everything around us
is in need of immediate change?
Sometimes what we have doesn’t look, feel, or fit well and we desire
change, and yet when we get what we wanted, we are slapped by reality that this new look, feel,
and fit are worse than what we had before.
How do we know that the promised changes will be better than what we had
before? If we do not look at life and truth from the
right perspective we will always be fooled by what we see. Religions,
denominations, and churches too are madly grasping for change. We hear words like “emerging, emergent,
contemporary, and reform” being used to describe new paths to change. Suddenly all that was good and useful for
hundreds of years now needs to be recycled with last week's newspapers and
something new put in their place.
Christians must find their anchor in the unchanging God of
heaven and in His unchanging Word. Truth
never changes. Before we get trampled in
the change stampede, we would do well to set our courses of life and beliefs by
the compass of absolute truth, the Bible.
In BBN BI we have 17 courses in our Bible Doctrines Studies
division. These will help you to fix
your soul upon the unchanging God of heaven and to keep you from being blown
about by the fickle winds of change.
