Herbert Arnold is a graduate of the Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary. He was co-founder of the Fredericksburg Bible Institute, where he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity. Dr. Arnold pastored churches in Canada and Virginia, including Denbigh Baptist Church in Newport News, where he served for many years.

S.M. (Shadrach Meshach) Lockridge was the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego, California from 1953 to 1993. He was known for his preaching across the United States and around the world in revivals, crusades and evangelistic conferences. Even after retiring from the pulpit, Dr. Lockridge served as guest lecturer at many schools and universities. He passed away in April, 2000, at the age of 87.

Herbert Lockyer considered becoming an actor. At 6'3" with a resonant voice and a commanding presence, he seemed a natural for the theater. But the Lord had something better in mind. Instead of the stage, God called Herbert to the pulpit, where as a pastor, Bible teacher, and author of more than 50 books, he touched the hearts and lives of millions of people. Dr. Lockyer passed away in December of 1984 at the age of 98. He was in his early 90's when the first four messages heard this week were recorded.

Vance Havner was a revivalist who had a quick wit. He was a popular speaker and his extensive Bible knowledge made him an effective preacher. Dr. Havner was a native of Catawba County, North Carolina. He preached his first sermon at the age of 12, and was ordained at the age of 15. Vance Havner pastored in North and South Carolina and became a full-time evangelist in the 1930's. He went home to be with the Lord in 1986 at the age of 84.

Don Lonie was educated at Wheaton College and was used extensively in summer camp counseling and high school club work. He talked with more than a million students around the nation as well as in England, Wales and Scotland. Mr. Lonie
was conferred an Honorary Doctor degree from Bob Jones University for his contribution to the moral and religious training of the youth of America.

Ray Stedman was an evangelical Christian pastor and author. He was a long-time pastor of Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, California, and author of several books. Ray Stedman passed away in 1992 at the age of 75.

Walter Martin was a recognized authority on religions having their origins in the United States. He was the Founder and President of the Christian Research Institute. Walter Martin pioneered the development of seminars dealing with cults and the problems of secularism in education. Stephen Olford was born in West Africa of missionary parents. He was educated in England, and earned his doctorate at Luther Rice Seminary. Dr. Olford was recognized for his powerful exposition of scripture, and his Christ-centered ministry. Dr. Olford was founder and senior lecturer of the Stephen Olford Center for Biblical Preaching. Stephen Olford passed into the presence of the Lord late Sunday night, August 29, 2004, at the age of 86.

Tom Wallace has pastored for many years, serving in Maryland, Kentucky and Tennessee. He also has conducted revival meetings and Bible conferences throughout the country. Elwyn Davies was one of the chief founders of the Evangelical Movement of Wales, leading the work as its General Secretary for over 30 years. By his preaching, his personal conversations and gentle character, pastor Davies became a friend, teacher and mentor to numerous people. His great desire was that the country he loved so dearly would be reconciled to the Christ whom he loved even more. Elwyn Davies passed away in September, 2007, at the age of 82.

Carl Armerding was born in 1883 in Jersey City, New Jersey. As a young man, he served as a missionary in Honduras and the British West Indies. Later on, Mr. Armerding  returned to the U.S. and served on the faculty of Evangelical Theological Seminary and taught at Moody Bible Institute as well as Wheaton College. Carl Armerding also served on the North American Council of China Inland Mission.

Monroe Parker was an evangelist and an administrator at Bob Jones University. Besides conducting hundreds of evangelistic campaigns and preaching in scores of high schools, colleges and Bible institutes, Dr. Parker taught in Bible colleges and seminaries. He played an important role in organizing local churches to serve the Lord together in Minnesota and Alabama. Monroe Parker was also instrumental in organizing the Christian Dells Bible Camp and Conference Grounds near Decatur, Alabama. Dr. Parker passed away in 1994 at the age of 85.

George Sweeting is the Chancellor Emeritus of Moody Bible Institute where he has served for 30 years. Before that, he served as the Senior Pastor of historic Moody Church in Chicago. Louis Paul Lehman pastored in Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as in California. He was a well known Bible teacher who started the Bit of Heaven radio ministry while in Michigan, which was broadcast nationally for many years. The program was picked up by BBN several years ago, and it has been a blessing to thousands. Dr. Lehman was also an accomplished musician.

David Allen was a well-known Bible conference speaker, especially in the Mid-western U.S. He also served as Pastor of Hazel Park Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan for many years. Dr. David Allen went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2003, at the age of 93.

J. Sidlow Baxter is known worldwide through his prolific writing ministry, as he wrote over 30 books. In 1951, he left the pastorate in Scotland to begin a teaching ministry in America. His last days were spent in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Baxter went to be with the Lord late in December of 1999 at the age of 96.

Theodore Epp, a graduate of Southwestern Theological Seminary, began his ministry as a pastor in Oklahoma, where he received his first taste of radio preaching. Mr. Epp moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, to establish the Back to the Bible Broadcast. That was May 1, 1939. Dr. Epp served as General Director for the broadcast until 1984. He continued to serve the ministry as well as perform other speaking engagements until his death in 1985. Theodore Epp was known for his quiet, but thorough teaching of the Word.

W.A. (Wallie Amos) Criswell was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma in 1909. He professed faith in Christ at the age of 10 and held student pastorates during his college studies at Baylor University. Called to Dallas' First Baptist Church in 1944, Dr. Criswell retired as senior pastor in 1995 after half a century of service to that church. He was called home to glory on January 9, 2002.

Charles Ryrie (born 1925) is a Christian writer and theologian. He graduated from Haverford College (B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., Th.D.) and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (Ph.D.). For many years Charles Ryrie served as professor of systematic theology and dean of doctoral studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and as president and professor at Philadelphia College of Bible, now Philadelphia Biblical University. Henry Brandt, acknowledged by many as the “Father of Modern-Day Biblical Counseling” died November 24, 2008 from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was 92. For over five decades, Dr. Brandt—international consultant, educator, counselor, author, and conference speaker—impacted the lives of countless people. He possessed wisdom and skill as a communicator and authored numerous books including the classic, The Heart of the Problem. His work, which has been translated into many languages, has circulated the globe and continues to influence many as people access his insightful principles and teachings by way of the internet.

Malcolm Cronk began preaching in western New York state when he was sixteen. Ten years later, in 1940, he became pastor of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A few years later, he felt called to travel with the Children's Bible Hour. Malcolm Cronk also helped found the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music. Later, he pastored the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles, following the ministry of Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

John Walvoord was the Professor of Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary for over 50 years. He also served as the President of the seminary for 33 years. In 1986, Dr. Walvoord became Chancellor until 2001, when he retired. John Walvoord wrote and published more than 30 books. He was recognized worldwide as a leader in conservative Biblical scholarship. Dr. Walvoord passed away in December of 2002, at the age of 92.

Alan Redpath was born in the United Kingdom in 1907. He trained as an accountant, but soon felt the call to preach, and became an evangelist. Dr. Redpath is best known as the former Pastor of the Moody Church in Chicago, serving from 1953 to 1962. In 1966, Alan Redpath began an itinerant conference and missionary ministry, in which he labored for the Lord for many years. Dr. Redpath passed away in 1989 in Birmingham, England.

Paul Smith served as Senior Pastor of the People’s church in Toronto from 1959 to 1994. Like his father, Oswald Smith, God led Paul to preach the gospel to multitudes around the world. Dr. Smith also had a passion for missions and raised millions of dollars for world missions. He went to be with the Lord April 30, 1995.

Malcolm Cronk began preaching in western New York state when he was sixteen. Ten years later, in 1940, he became pastor of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A few years later, he felt called to travel with the Children's Bible Hour. Malcolm Cronk also helped found the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music. Later, he pastored the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles, following the ministry of Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

Harold Wildish was born in England in 1903 and was converted to Christ at the age of 12. Six years later, he preached his first message to a group of late night English drinkers. In 1925, Mr .Wildish sailed to the Amazon with 35 dollars and a heart full of faith. Years later, malaria forced him to leave the Amazon and head to the West Indies. Harold Wildish spent the rest of his life in Jamaica as a missionary for the Plymouth Brethren. He passed away in 1982.
