JAMES NAISMITH was born in India in 1923 to missionary parents. At age 5, James was entrusted to the care of a family in Scotland. He graduated from the university at age 21, becoming the youngest doctor in Scotland. James Naismith was a founder of Kawartha Lakes Bible College and one of its most loved teachers. He retired at age 60 to devote himself more fully to the Lord's work and traveled throughout many countries, preaching, teaching, and encouraging God's people. Dr. Naismith went Home to be with his Lord on Feb 9, 2009.

KEN POURE proclaimed the message of Christ in hundreds of Family Forums across the nation. Ken was well-known for practical, humorous and down-to-earth teaching and preaching. BOB SMITH was a professor of Philosophy at Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was also used by the Lord in Bible conference ministry for many years. He was particularly able to challenge young adults with God's message and spoke to service personnel at U.S military bases all over the world. Dr. Smith not only appealed to the heart but enforced that appeal with logic and reason. He is now with the Lord.

TOM TAYLOR was the retired Emeritus Associate Professor of Church History and Old Testament at Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. His teaching career in biblical studies spanned nearly 40 years. Dr. Taylor was active in radio, writing and conference ministries across the nation. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 86.

CARY SCHMIDT became the Senior Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington, Connecticut in 2012 after serving 22 years as an associate pastor at Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, California. Five years ago the Lord led him through a battle with cancer—Hodgkins Lymphoma. God did a deep work in his life through that valley and his last scan was clear of cancer. Cary is a down-to-earth Bible teacher and preacher. A part of his call in ministry is to encourage others through writing. J. OSWALD SANDERS was a general director of Overseas Missionary Fellowship (then known as China Inland Mission) in the 1950s and 1960s. He was born in New Zealand and gained a law degree in 1922. J. Oswald Sanders left a promising law practice to serve as an instructor and administrator at the Bible College of New Zealand. He became an elder statesman and worldwide conference speaker from his retirement in 1969 until his death. J. Oswald Sanders wrote prolifically, with many of his books being translated into German, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and other languages. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 90.

RICH TOZOUR (toz'-er) grew up in southern New Jersey and trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of ten. Rich went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies at Pensacola Christian College (Pensacola, Florida) in 1989. He entered full-time evangelism in 1994. Rich has ministered to teens for parts of three decades in camps and Christian schools.

OSWALD SMITH was one of the most versatile Christian leaders in the history of the Christian church. Perhaps never has one man done so many different things well. Oswald Smith was a pastor, evangelist, missionary statesman, author, hymn writer, world traveler, poet and editor. His ministry centered in Toronto, Canada, where he pastored the Peoples Church from 1915 to 1959. Bedridden for the last months of his life, Oswald Smith passed away in 1986 at the age of 96.

He became pastor of a Baptist church in Greenville, South Carolina, and developed a college ministry for students at nearby Clemson and Furman universities. DICK WOODWARD founded the Virginia Beach Community Chapel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1956. In 1979, he was called to assist two founding elders in planting the Williamsburg Community Chapel in Williamsburg, Virginia. Pastor Woodward taught the Scriptures on a weekly and daily basis on commercial television stations in the Norfolk, Virginia area for more than 15 years. In 1980, Dick was diagnosed with a degenerative disease of the spinal cord that slowly left him a bedfast quadriplegic. That illness was the impetus for him to bring to audio, video and print form the systematic Bible survey curriculum he had been teaching for decades. The resulting collection of teaching, called the Mini Bible College, has been translated into 31 languages. Pastor Woodward passed away in 2014.

J. ALLEN BLAIR began a daily radio broadcast called "Glad Tidings" in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. It has been on the air continuously, five days each week, ever since. BBN carries the broadcast each weekday morning. Dr. Blair's mission was to introduce people to Jesus Christ as Savior, the Son of God and Creator of the universe; and to help Christians mature in their faith and relationship with God. Dr. Blair went home to be with the Lord in 2007.

VANCE HAVNER was a revivalist who had a quick wit. He was a popular speaker and his extensive Bible knowledge made him an effective preacher. Dr. Havner was a native of Catawba County, North Carolina. He preached his first sermon at the age of 12, and was ordained at the age of 15. Vance Havner pastored in North Carolina and South Carolina and became a full-time evangelist in the 1930's. He went home to be with the Lord in 1986 at the age of 84.

CHARLES RYRIE was a dispensational scholar and Christian educator best known for the popular study Bible that bears his name. Dr. Ryrie taught Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary before serving as dean of doctoral studies for more than two decades until his retirement in 1983. A man with a heart for international missions, he served on the executive council of Central American Mission (now known as Camino Global) for 23 years. Dr. Ryrie passed away earlier this year at the age of 90.

ADRIAN ROGERS pastored the Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee for 32 years. He is known as one of the fathers of the conservative resurgence movement that brought the Southern Baptist Convention back to its biblical and historical roots. The face and deep voice of Dr. Rogers were known to millions of believers worldwide thanks to his Love Worth Finding television and radio ministry, which is carried in more than 150 countries. The radio broadcast is heard on BBN each weekday morning. Dr. Rogers passed away in 2005 at the age of 74.

24- ORATORIO: HANDEL'S MESSIAH is one of the greatest works of it's kind ever written by man. It was composed in the incredibly short span of 24 days in 1741. Handel used as his text certain passages selected from the Bible.
BBN will feature Part 1 of the Messiah, which contains the prophecy and narrative of the Nativity. The performance will end with the opening and closing chorus of Part 2; the closing being the familiar "Hallelujah Chorus". Music is provided by the Toronto Symphony and Chorus. DAVE BREESE was saved as a teenager in Chicago. Dave founded the ministry of Christian Destiny in 1963 and was influencial in the establishment of the AWANA Youth Association. He was heard on several radio broadcasts during his career. Dave Breese was a popular speaker at churches, Bible conferences, universities and evangelistic meetings. The Lord called him home to heaven in 2002 at the age of 75.

ROBERT SMITH, JR. serves as Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, where he teaches Christian Preaching. Previously he served as the Carl E. Bates Associate Professor of Christian Preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. As an ordained Baptist minister, Dr. Smith served as pastor of the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio for twenty years. He is a contributing editor for a study of Christian ministry in the African American church, "Preparing for Christian Ministry."

JOHN WALVOORD was the Professor of Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary for over 50 years. He also served as the President of the seminary for 33 years. In 1986, Dr. Walvoord became Chancellor until 2001, when he retired. John Walvoord wrote and published more than 30 books. He was recognized worldwide as a leader in conservative Biblical scholarship. Dr. Walvoord passed away in 2002, at the age of 92.

21- HAROLD MORRIS was falsely convicted of armed robbery and murder at age 29 and spent the next 9 years behind bars in the Georgia State Penitentiary. He received Christ through the witness of a friend who visited him one day, and was eventually paroled in 1978. Mr. Morris received a commutation from the state of Georgia 3 years later and dedicated his life to speaking to and counseling teenagers about the dangers of sin and the importance of making right choices early in life. His best selling book-"Twice Pardoned", has made a lasting impact on millions.

22- LEHMAN STRAUSS taught Old Testament history at Philadelphia Bible Institute, and pastored churches in Pennsylvania and Michigan. In 1963, he began to devote full time to an itinerant Bible conference and evangelistic ministry world-wide. Dr. Strauss was residing in Florida and writing his 19th book at age 86 when the Lord called him home in 1997. You can still enjoy his Bible teaching on BBN daily on Bible Study Time.

23- COLONEL JACK McGUCKIN was a Marine Corps fighter pilot who served in the South Pacific during World War II and flew 40 missions during the Korean War. Once an atheist, he gave his life to Christ five years after the truce in Korea. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Colonel McGuckin served 4 years as a pilot in Peru with Wycliffe Bible Translators followed by 30 years as an international evangelist. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 86. He penned his life story and testimony in the book-"Split Second From Hell".

24- MATT HERBSTER joined the staff of The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center in Brevard, North Carolina in 1997. He served on the program staff and became the program director of the camp. In the fall of 2013, Matt was appointed Director of The Wilds, that hosts 20,000 people each year.

25- JOSH McDOWELL has been at the forefront of cultural trends and groundbreaking ministry for more than 50 years. Dr. Havner was a native of Catawba County, North Carolina. He preached his first sermon at the age of 12, and was ordained at the age of 15. Vance Havner pastored in North and South Carolina and became a full-time evangelist in the 1930's. He went home to be with the Lord in 1986 at the age of 84.

HYMAN APPLEMAN was born in Russia to orthodox Jewish parents who moved to America in 1914. He became a trial lawyer in Chicago and at age twenty-eight was led to Christ following a nine hour conversation with a pastor. Shortly after his conversion, he was called to preach and became one of the greatest evangelists of his generation. Dr. Appleman made eight trips around the world sharing the gospel in his fifty-three years of ministry. He passed away in 1983 at the age of eighty-one.

MARK BAILEY assumed the presidency of Dallas Theological Seminary in 2001 after years of service as both a professor in the Bible Exposition department and as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. BUFORD ADAMS founded the Clayton Community Church in Morrow, Georgia. The Church formed out of a ministry known as the Atlanta Youth Ranch in the mid 1960's.
