Facing The Storm! Tragedy!

Recently when the tornadoes and violent storms hit several US states, reports stated how some people tried to prepare for the worst as the storms hit. One man pulled a couch over his head. Bank employees rushed into the vault. A woman trembled in her bathroom, clinging to her dogs. College students huddled in dormitories. A couple climbed into the bath tub and prayed.

What goes through one's mind as the storm hits?

I am going to die! Please somebody help me! What in the world is happening? O my God, please help me!

Those deadly storms flattened houses, smashed buildings and sent tractor-trailers flying. Power lines were downed, trees snapped off, cars flipped, and cattle were carried from the pastures where they grazed. Lives too were shattered as 59 people died from the assault and more than 200 were injured.

What’s it like when it’s over?

Residents across Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas are still reeling a week after the deadly storms hit. It is not soon forgotten as clean up and salvage operations begin. Families mourn and arrangements are made by the survivors to move on with life. In other words, a tragedy of this proportion is not easily dealt with nor soon forgotten.

Sometimes dealing with life is much like facing the storm. We wonder why the storms of life have come to us and after they have wrecked our lives we wonder how we will ever be able to go on. But just as those survivors must pick up the pieces and move on with life, so must all who face difficulties and heartaches in this life.

Is the storm a tragedy? Certainly, but even in the tragedy, God is working graciously. For example think of little 11-month-old Kyson Stowell who was found during the tornado clean up. Amazingly, he suffered only scrapes and cuts to his face although his mother died in the storm. Regardless of the storms you have faced in life, my friend, there is hope if you are still alive. God is being gracious to you. Pick up the pieces and move on with your life. Live in such a way as to please the Lord your God and He will bless you.

Dr. Dwight Pentecost has prepared several lessons that deal with facing the Problems of Life. This BBN BI course # 50200 teaches that God is able to supply our every need as He helps us after we have been through some storms of life. Why not sign up and study this Bible based material today?

You may be facing a storm, in the midst of one, or just cleaning up afterwards. But whatever your situation in life you need to recognize the God of the storm and studying His Word will help you do just that!
