Lord, Why Is This Happening?
|
 Have you ever experienced an excruciating period of difficulty in your life as a believer, and wondered out loud to the Lord just why you were going through this hard time? I never go through such a time in my own life without remembering a certain very difficult time for my wife and me in which I could make no sense. As the darkness and discouragement continued and even increased, it seemed that God was silent and the questions kept piling up in my mind with no answers. Eventually, however, the difficulties began to decrease until stability began to emerge in my life. A short time later, the Lord led us to BBN and a new ministry opportunity that I had neither sought nor ever thought would come to us suddenly was in front of us. This time of difficulty and despair was used by the Lord to help others going through much the same difficulties the Lord had allowed in our lives! Second Corinthians 1:3-4 took on new and fresh significance for me. Paul said, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." As the Lord was pleased to use us in His work, it began to dawn on me that at least part of why we were led through the shadow of death was to give us resources to help others going through similar problems and pains.
