Contentment in Prayer

Contentment in Prayer

The Bible is very clear on the fact that Jesus Christ is God, who came down to earth in human flesh! The very first verse of the Gospel of John, along with many others make this fact very plain. Yet it is also very clear from the Word of God that this same Jesus was Man, just like we are yet apart from sin, and He is often seen as being weary, being tempted and having the same concerns that we do. Yet, Jesus Christ, being God, spent much time in prayer! He is even seen on at least one occasion as spending the entire night in prayer with His Father, God! He did not pray just as an example for us, though His prayers are certainly that. He did not pray just as an exercise, He prayed out of a deep sense of necessity! Yet, as we see our Lord praying in Scripture, a beautiful truth emerges, and it is that prayer for Jesus was natural, it flowed from Him and was a delight! Prayer was many things for Jesus, but supremely it was communion with the Father, and it can and should be the same for us. Yet often prayer for us is not natural, it is not a delight and it is not communion with our Father but only from a sense of guilt or duty. Yet even in this, God can and often does teach us valuable lessons about our relationship with Him, and one of the most valuable of all is that prayer itself helps us to see that we are in desperate need of God and dependent on Him!

In fact, prayer is the greatest expression of faith that a Christian can exhibit, and we learn to pray as we just spend time with our loving Savior communing with Him. A great free resource to help us do that is found in the BBN Bible Institute, in course number 20500, taught by Dr. Ray Stedman, titled simply The Value of Prayer. Seeing the importance of prayer, we believe this course will be a blessing to anyone desiring to have more contentment and the ability to pray according to the will of our God.
