These are the words of Queen Esther’s uncle Mordecai as he encourages her to do her part in saving her race, the Jewish people, from utter destruction by the wicked Haman. We see God’s providential hand at work in the life of the Jewish people in the Biblical Book of Esther though we never read His name in the Book. He raised up this ordinary Jewish girl, Esther, to become the Queen of the ancient Persian empire at just the right time to save the Jews from the wicked scheming of Haman, the unsuspecting king’s right hand man. When Esther understandably evidenced apprehension, Mordecai emboldened her by reminding her that if she refused, God would raise up someone else for the task, yet she would still be destroyed along with her people. Esther realized that this was her destiny, to risk her life for her people, the Jewish race. Indeed God had raised her up for just such a time as this!
