J.B. BUFFINGTON was a B-17 pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was called to preach following the war and in 1963, he began his pastorate at Calvary Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida. Dr. Buffington resigned in 1993 but continued an active schedule of Bible, Missions, and Evangelism Conferences in churches and colleges as his health allowed. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 86.

HENRY BRANDT earned a doctorate from Cornell University in marriage and family relations and had the ability to provide insight into the subject of the family from a biblical perspective. For more than five decades, Dr. Brandt served the Lord as a pioneer in biblical counseling. He was a trusted adviser to Christian ministries, a popular conference speaker, and a widely read author. Henry Brandt passed away in 2008 at the age of 92.

DAVE BREESE was saved as a teenager in Chicago. Dave founded the ministry of Christian Destiny in 1963 and was influencial in the establishment of the AWANA Youth Association. He was heard on several radio broadcasts during his career. Dave Breese was a popular speaker at churches, Bible conferences, universities and evangelistic meetings. The Lord called him home to Heaven in 2002 at the age of 75.

LOUIS PAUL LEHMAN pastored in Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as in California. He was a well known Bible teacher who started the Bit of Heaven radio ministry while in Michigan, which was broadcast nationally for many years. The program was picked up by BBN several years ago, and it has been a blessing to thousands. Dr. Lehman was also an accomplished musician. He retired from full time ministry in 1984 and passed away in 1986 at the age of 72.

JACK HUDSON was a race car driver during his younger years. At the age of 27, Jack Hudson and his wife were led to Christ. He surrendered to the ministry and graduated with honors from Tennessee Temple University. Dr. Hudson established the Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. in 1954, which was founded on Jeremiah 33:3. Over the next 36 years, Jack Hudson "made much of Jesus", in spite of severe pain and constant suffering. The Lord called him home in 1990.

HOWARD HENDRICKS, known simply as “Prof,” directly or indirectly touched millions of lives in the evangelical community and beyond. For more than sixty years, Dr. Hendricks served on the faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), where he taught more than ten thousand students. He also ministered in person in more than eighty countries. Through speaking engagements, radio, the sixteen books he authored and coauthored, his service on numerous boards, and his work as a chaplain to the Dallas Cowboys, his reach was and continues to be worldwide. Prof Hendricks passed away in February of 2013 at the age of 88.

GENE GETZ is the Chairman Emeritus for the Centers of Church Based Training. He has been a senior pastor, professor and author of more than 70 books. Dr. Getz has been a church-planting pastor in the Dallas Metroplex since 1972 and has served as an adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary.

BEN HADEN was a former CEO of a daily newspaper, a third generation attorney and author. He served as senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from 1967 to 1999. Ben Haden was an atheist until he received Christ at the age of 29. He succeeded Donald Grey Barnhouse as the speaker on the Radio Bible Study Hour in the 1960's. Ben Haden passed away in October of 2013 at the age of 88.

BOB DOWIE was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1927 and was saved at the age of 19. Despite the fact that he had no schooling beyond the sixth grade, Bob had a passion for preaching the Bible. He was asked to teach at New Brunswick Bible Institute, where he served in many areas for 38 years. He received an honourary Doctor of Divinity degree from Trinity College, which recognized his ministry as an evangelist, musician and teacher. Bob Dowie went home to Heaven in September, 1996, while on a morning jog.

RAYMOND EDMAN is best remembered as the fourth president of Wheaton College in Illinois from 1940 to 1965. He was born in Chicago in 1900 as one of six children to Swedish immigrant parents. Dr. Edman served as a missionary to the Quichua people in Ecuador in the 1920's until he was forced to return to the United States after contracting a tropical disease. In 1967, after delivering a chapel message titled, “In the Presence of the King,” Raymond Edman turned, collapsed on stage and entered the presence of the King of Kings whom he had served so long and well.

VANCE HAVNER was a revivalist who had a quick wit. He was a popular speaker and his extensive Bible knowledge made him an effective preacher. Dr. Havner was a native of Catawba County, North Carolina. He preached his first sermon at the age of 12, and was ordained at the age of 15. Vance Havner pastored in North and South Carolina and became a full-time evangelist in the 1930's. He went home to be with the Lord in 1986 at the age of 84.

ROY LETOURNEAU was a son of the famed industrialist and inventor R.G. LeTourneau. Roy and his wife, Shirley, lived in Peru for eight years building roads and developing jungle land on the headwaters of the Amazon River. In 1973, Roy and a missionary friend developed a unique missions strategy for church planting and evangelism that multiplied to over 70 churches with tens of thousands in attendance throughout Peru. Roy and his wife traveled all over the world where Roy shared the story of what Jesus Christ had done in his life and was privileged to be used by God to lead many men to Christ. He passed away peacefully in his home last October at the age of 85.

ABE VAN DER PUY was born in 1919 and was a graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois. He served as a missionary in Ecuador and was active in radio broadcasting as a teacher, manager and president of National Religious Broadcasters. Abe was also an accomplished author and speaker. He passed away in 2003 at the age of 83.

ALAN REDPATH was born in the United Kingdom in 1907. He trained as an accountant, but soon felt the call to preach, and became an evangelist. In 1966, Alan Redpath began an itinerant conference and missionary ministry, in which he labored for the Lord for many years. Dr. Redpath passed away in 1989 in Birmingham, England.

J. SIDLOW BAXTER is known worldwide through his prolific writing ministry. He wrote over 30 books that have sold by the hundreds of thousands. In 1951, Dr. Baxter left the pastorate in Scotland to begin a teaching ministry in America. His last days were spent in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Baxter went to be with the Lord in 1999 at the age of 96.

LARRY BURKETT was an author and radio personality whose work focused on financial counseling from a Christian point of view. It was during his tenure as a financial counselor at Campus Crusade for Christ that he began an intense study of what the Bible says about handling money, and he started teaching small groups around the country. In 1976, Larry formed Christian Financial Concepts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching the biblical principles of handling money. In 2000, CFC merged with Crown Ministries, creating a new organization, Crown Financial Ministries. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until his death in 2003.

PREACHER BROWN received the Lord as Savior while fighting in World War II. He founded the Manna Bible Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland in 1968 and later founded the Pimlico Bible Institute. For over 50 years, Dr. Brown was dedicated to the evangelism of the lost and the teachings of God's Word by radio and television. His motto, "Keep looking up," is how he lived each day. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 81.

Dr. Lindsay received the call to the gospel ministry at the age of 16. His ministry was built on a solid foundation of Scripture and evangelism. Homer Lindsay passed away in 2000 at the age of 72.

Tonight, we will hear Part 1 of the Messiah, which contains the prophecy and narrative of the Nativity. We will end tonight's performance with the opening and closing chorus of Part 2; the closing being the familiar "Hallelujah Chorus". The music is performed by the Toronto Symphony and Chorus.

There he began a radio broadcast on a single station. Dr. McGee began teaching Through the Bible in 1967. Today, the program airs on over 400 stations every day in the United States and Canada, and is heard in more than 100 languages and dialects around the world. J. Vernon McGee passed away in his sleep in 1988 at the age of 84.

Dr. Johnson passed away in 2002 at the age of 93.

His radio shows included the "Children's Bible Hour," which was started in 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and continues to be broadcast on BBN. Mel Johnson was also an evangelist with Youth for Christ, which involved traveling to cities across the country to organize Saturday evening rallies for young people. He passed away in 2001 at the age of 83.

LEHMAN STRAUSS taught Old Testament history at Philadelphia Bible Institute, and pastored churches in Pennsylvania and Michigan. In 1963, he began to devote full time to an itinerant Bible conference and evangelistic ministry world-wide. Dr. Strauss was residing in Florida and writing his 19th book at age 86 when the Lord called him home in 1997.

Dr. Gangel was one of the most influential Christian educators of the 20th century; a leader of leaders; and a champion of the Christian family. Kenn authored or edited 57 books and lectured in more than 40 educational institutions worldwide. Even in retirement, Dr. Gangel served as the Scholar-in-Residence for Toccoa Falls College and continued to edit his own leadership publication. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 74.

DOUGLAS MCLACHLAN came to know Christ at the age of 16. His call to the ministry came simultaneously with his salvation experience as he had a burden to be a servant of the Lord. Dr. McLachlan has taught in the areas of homiletics and pastoral theology. He continues to serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chancellor, and President Emeritus of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

T.M. JOHNSON was a pastor for 20 years in Chicago until God led him into full-time evangelism. He preached in North and South America as well as in Europe and Asia. In 1967, Dr. Johnson became senior pastor of Bibletown Community Church and president of the Bibletown Bible conference in Boca Raton, Florida. He remained with the church until retirement in 1982. Dr. Johnson passed away in 2002 at the age of 93.

ERNEST PICKERING was a pastor; author of numerous articles and books; a college administrator; and mission board representative. After he experienced a recurrence of cancer near his brain, the radiation used to treat the cancer caused him to become totally blind in 1996. Assisted by his wife, Dr. Pickering continued to preach without notes until the progress of the disease made continuation of his ministry impossible. He passed away in 2000.

WALTER WILSON was an American medical doctor, salesman, businessman, preacher and soul-winner. He recorded many of his remarkable experiences in a series of books to instruct and encourage others in the great work of spreading the gospel. Dr. Wilson was saved at the age of 15 and the following year, began holding evangelistic street meetings. Although never ordained, he led many to put their trust in Jesus, winning his audience with wit and homely stories. Walter Wilson passed away in 1969 at the age of 88.

SAM DALTON entered full-time evangelism in 1966 and continued this work for nearly 40 years. He was saved out of a life of gambling and was used of the Lord in preaching in churches, Bible conferences and rescue missions. Sam Dalton's testimony has been featured on the Unshackled broadcast, which is produced by the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. Sam Dalton passed away a few years ago.
