VANCE HAVNER was a revivalist who had a quick wit. He was a popular speaker and his extensive Bible knowledge made him an effective preacher. Dr. Havner was a native of Catawba County, North Carolina. He preached his first sermon at the age of 12, and was ordained at the age of 15. Vance Havner pastored in North and South Carolina and became a full-time evangelist in the 1930's. He went home to be with the Lord in 1986 at the age of 84.

JEFF AMSBAUGH is the pastor of Greater Rhode Island Baptist Temple in Johnson, Rhode Island.

CHARLES RYRIE was a dispensational scholar and Christian educator best known for the popular study Bible that bears his name. Dr. Ryrie taught Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary before serving as dean of doctoral studies for more than two decades until his retirement in 1983. A man with a heart for international missions, he served on the executive council of Camino Global for 23 years. Dr. Ryrie passed away earlier this year at the age of 90.

ADRIAN ROGERS pastored the Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee for 32 years. He is known as one of the fathers of the conservative resurgence movement that brought the Southern Baptist Convention back to its biblical and historical roots. The face and deep voice of Dr. Rogers were known to millions of believers worldwide thanks to his Love Worth Finding television and radio ministry, which is carried in more than 150 countries. The radio broadcast is heard on BBN each weekday morning. Dr. Rogers passed away in 2005 at the age of 74.

24- ORATORIO: HANDEL'S MESSIAH is one of the greatest works of it's kind ever written by man. It was composed in the incredibly short span of 24 days in 1741. Handel used as his text certain passages selected from the Bible.
BBN will feature Part 1 of the Messiah, which contains the prophecy and narrative of the Nativity. The performance will end with the opening and closing chorus of Part 2; the closing being the familiar "Hallelujah Chorus". Music is provided by the Toronto Symphony and Chorus. DAVE BREESE was saved as a teenager in Chicago. Dave founded the ministry of Christian Destiny in 1963 and was influencial in the establishment of the AWANA Youth Association. He was heard on several radio broadcasts during his career. Dave Breese was a popular speaker at churches, Bible conferences, universities and evangelistic meetings. The Lord called him home to heaven in 2002 at the age of 75.

JOHN WALVOORD was the Professor of Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary for over 50 years. He also served as the President of the seminary for 33 years. In 1986, Dr. Walvoord became Chancellor until 2001, when he retired. John Walvoord wrote and published more than 30 books. He was recognized worldwide as a leader in conservative Biblical scholarship. Dr. Walvoord passed away in 2002, at the age of 92.

TESTIMONY WEEK

21- HAROLD MORRIS was falsely convicted of armed robbery and murder at age 29 and spent the next 9 years behind bars in the Georgia State Penitentiary. He received Christ through the witness of a friend who visited him one day, and was eventually paroled in 1978. Mr. Morris received a commutation from the state of Georgia 3 years later and dedicated his life to speaking to and counseling teenagers about the dangers of sin and the importance of making right choices early in life. His best selling book-"Twice Pardoned", has made a lasting impact on millions.

22- LEHMAN STRAUSS taught Old Testament history at Philadelphia Bible Institute, and pastored churches in Pennsylvania and Michigan. In 1963, he began to devote full time to an itinerant Bible conference and evangelistic ministry world-wide. Dr. Strauss was residing in Florida and writing his 19th book at age 86 when the Lord called him home in 1997. You can still enjoy his Bible teaching on BBN daily on Bible Study Time.

23- COLONEL JACK McGUCKIN was a Marine Corps fighter pilot who served in the South Pacific during World War II and flew 40 missions during the Korean War. Once an atheist, he gave his life to Christ five years after the truce in Korea. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Colonel McGuckin served 4 years as a pilot in Peru with Wycliffe Bible Translators followed by 30 years as an international evangelist. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 86. He penned his life story and testimony in the book-"Split Second From Hell".

24- MATT HERBSTER joined the staff of The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center in Brevard, North Carolina in 1997. He served on the program staff and became the program director of the camp. In the fall of 2013, Matt was appointed Director of The Wilds, that hosts 20,000 people each year.

25- JOSH McDOWELL has been at the forefront of cultural trends and groundbreaking ministry for more than 50 years. His ministry serves and equips the Body of Christ in raising generations of purpose-driven Christians who know what they believe, why it is true and how to live it out. HYMAN APPLEMAN was born in Russia to orthodox Jewish parents who moved to America in 1914. He became a trial lawyer in Chicago and at age twenty-eight was led to Christ following a nine hour conversation with a pastor. Shortly after his conversion, he was called to preach and became one of the greatest evangelists of his generation. Dr. Appleman made eight trips around the world sharing the gospel in his fifty-three years of ministry. He passed away in 1983 at the age of eighty-one.

MARK BAILEY assumed the presidency of Dallas Theological Seminary in 2001 after years of service as both a professor in the Bible Exposition department and as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. ALWYN (Al-vine) ZOUTENDYK was a native of South Africa. He received his Ph.D. in biology and was a businessman during his early adult life. He received the Lord as Saviour while in his mid 30's. Dr. Zoutendyk then trained for the ministry and imigrated to America, where he founded and pastored a church in Rancho Sante Fe, California. He is now with the Lord.

During this time, he also ministered in churches, Bible Conferences, and missionary centers throughout the world. Dr. Baxter was known worldwide through his prolific writing ministry. His last days were spent in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Baxter went to be with the Lord in 1999 at the age of 96.

LES OLLILA has served in the pastorate in South Carolina and Michigan. For 5 years, he and his wife ministered with Life Action Revival Ministries. W.A. CRISWELL was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma in 1909. He professed faith in Christ at the age of 10 and held student pastorates during his college studies at Baylor University. Called to Dallas' First Baptist Church in 1944, Dr. Criswell retired as senior pastor in 1995 after half a century of service to that church. He was called home to glory in 2002 at the age of 92.

LEHMAN STRAUSS taught Old Testament history at Philadelphia Bible Institute, and pastored churches in Pennsylvania and Michigan. R.G. LEE began his career on a farm in South Carolina where he was born of poor, but deeply religious parents. Early in life he felt the call to be a preacher; in spite of many obstacles, he heeded that call. Dr. Lee was ordained at his boyhood church in Fort Mill, South Carolina in 1910. He was pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee from December, 1927, until April, 1960. Dr. R.G. Lee preached his famous sermon- Pay Day, Someday- over 1200 times all over the world. He passed away in 1978 at his home in Memphis.
