Finish Well

Awhile ago, a fire broke out in a family’s home in the middle of the night as the father was at work and the young mother was sleeping along with her newborn and two other young children. The Fire Chief was a giant of a man who burst into the burning home, and called out for any survivors. As he heard nothing, he was about to leave, when he heard a faint cry. He ran through the smoke and saw the terrified mother with her 2 children in her arms and the baby still asleep! He picked up the baby and realized the others were frozen with fear and could not move! The Chief thought quickly and tossed the mother across his shoulders, took a child in each arm, and took the newborn in its clothes in his teeth and made his way out to safety! It certainly took the Chief’s focus on the goal of rescuing this family and that was key in his rescue finishing well!
Even more importantly, Paul the Apostle teaches us in Scripture how to keep our focus on the Lord Jesus in terrifying times so that we can finish well ourselves and point others toward that same goal! (See 2 Timothy 3:12-17)
