No Mistakes

No Mistakes

Does your life at times seem like it’s taking some strange turns and twists, and you cannot get your hands on the steering wheel?  Life has a way of throwing at us curve balls we cannot hit, or even see coming.  There are interruptions that barge right into our schedules uninvited and then there are those surprises that crash into our worlds and broadside our plans.  How about those hurtful things that grabbed our destiny before we were old enough to choose and now it seems we have no option but to hang on and wonder how and when it will end?

Why?  Why does God allow such things?  Is He watching?  Listening?  Does He care?

These same questions very likely made their way into the troubled thoughts of Joseph, the rejected brother in the Old Testament.  No doubt the words: “Why God?” formed on his lips numerous times.  Joseph’s journeys in his life brought him to deep appreciation of God’s sovereignty.  He said to his brothers that sold him like a cheap trinket at a yard sale: “You thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.”  We need that same understanding to make sense of God’s ways and our situations.

A.M. Overton penned these powerful thoughts concerning God’s ways: He Makes No Mistake.

My Father’s way may twist and turn
My heart may throb and ache,
But in my soul I’m glad to know,
He maketh no mistake.

My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I’ll trust my Lord to lead,
For He doth know the way.

For by and by the mist will lift,
And plain it all He’ll make,
Through all the way, tho’ dark to me,
He made not one mistake.
