Bob Reed went to Bolivia to oversee the phone room operations and the BBN Spanish announcers were ready to go in Charlotte. When it came time to start, the process to split the signal wouldn't work. Ron Muffley finally figured out the solution at 8:06 PM. At 8:29 PM, there was some discussion on the special internet chat page about how the split would work. Ron sent the message, "O ye of little faith" to which Bob responded, "Hey, tell Ron I am the one in Bolivia... don't talk to me about faith! "the Share-a-thon started at 8:30 PM. The next day, a vehicle hit a pole and knocked out the power at the radio station in Cochabamba, where the phone bank was located. Later, a fuse would blow, causing the same radio station to go off the air. Then on the last evening the toll free number in Bolivia would not work at all, so each radio station had to take its own calls on the last day. Despite all the problems, victory came at 8:38 PM on Wednesday evening, just 48 hours and 8 minutes from the beginning.
